Facial Plastic Surgery
Centers: What to Look For and What to Avoid
Communication is Key
Just because your doctor is board certified and has all the
credentials that could quite possibly make him the most
qualified surgeon out there doesn’t mean his facial plastic
surgery center is right for you. In order
to be happy with the results of your surgery, find a facial
plastic surgery center with a doctor whom you feel has the same
tastes as you. Ask to see before/after photos of other
patients. See how perceptive he is to your wants and needs. If
you get along with the doctor and enjoy being around him, that
is a good start. There is nothing more awkward than getting
operated on in a facial plastic surgery center where you feel
like an outsider or uncomfortable. Choose a place where you
feel comfortable staying for a long period of time because you
are going to be there for a while to recover and for follow-up
appointments. Make sure that your surgeon is open to listening
to your desires and strives to work to achieve your
expectations.
Publicity Doesn’t Guarantee Anything
There are so many TV shows nowadays about plastic surgery. A
mistake that many people make is to choose a facial plastic
surgery center just because it was featured on a TV show. The
fact of the matter is that the doctor probably just has a good
publicist and that is why he is on the TV show. The same goes
for appearances in magazine and newspaper articles. That being
said, a facial plastic surgery center on TV or magazines may be
a good one. The problem is that many of the doctors that are
busy with media appearances are going to have little time to
communicate with their patients and have good bedside
manner.
Patient-to-Patient Referral is the Most Reliable
Rather than relying on glossy
advertisements of facial plastic surgery centers, find out what
the medical community or the patients who have actually been
there think. Ask your family doctor for recommendations or
frequent message boards and online forums about plastic
surgery. Patients that have had good or bad experiences can
tell you about the best and worst facial plastic surgery
centers out there. It is best to rely on what the patients say
because some facial plastic surgery centers will say anything
to get business. Your goal? Don’t decide on a facial plastic
surgery center without getting some background information
first. Also make sure you feel comfortable communicating with
the doctor so you can build a trusting relationship with him.
After all, you are entrusting the doctor with one of the most
visible parts of your body so you need to make sure that the
facial plastic surgery center you choose is up to par.
